Original Plans For AEW Revolution 2025 Main Event Revealed

During AEW Revolution 2025’s main event, Christian Cage capitalized on his Casino Gauntlet contract. Consequently, the AEW World Title match, already brimming with anticipation, metamorphosed into a three-cornered fight. Jon Moxley, Cope, and Cage were the participants.

In a captivating turn of events, Moxley successfully defended his AEW World Title against his two competitors.

However, the decision of AEW to feature Moxley vs. Cope in the spotlight at Revolution 2025, particularly with Moxley as the reigning champion, did not amuse some spectators.

Recent revelations on the “Wrestling Observer Live” by Bryan Alvarez indicated that the battle was initially intended to be a more frenzied ordeal. It was to include more fighters and unexpected comebacks, reminiscent of the primary event at WrestleMania 40 (Night Two).

Alvarez recounted, “Undeniably, I was privy to this – there was a concept for the main event that involved numerous people, far more than what we saw. This even included some comeback athletes. All of a sudden, it was called off. I’m unsure about who it was supposed to be or the planned outcome, but there was a backup idea that was ultimately discarded. It wasn’t Shane McMahon, if that’s what you’re thinking. Whatever it was, it involved people who had previously been there or had been there earlier. Shane McMahon’s debut wasn’t in the picture.”

He elaborated further, “It appears that there were alterations to the main event, which people came to know of. Seeing the situation with the hand on the chest being abruptly ended probably gave rise to the assumption that he [Cope] might not agree to lose to the other guy. However, that doesn’t align with the fact. I’m quite certain that, regardless of any previous or subsequent plans, Moxley was destined to stay on top. He was invariably set to challenge Swerve in the upcoming pay-per-view event.”
