AEW star Orange Cassidy recently spoke on the “Geek Time” podcast about the creation of his relaxed persona. Cassidy emphasized that rather than contriving the character, he simply lived his life naturally.
Cassidy shared, “I didn’t actually create the character. There are days when we all just don’t want to get up and hit the grind, right?”
On the recent episode of AEW Dynamite, “Speedball” Mike Bailey made his debut, beating The Beast Mortos. Bailey cited visa issues as the factor that delayed his initial AEW debut after leaving TNA Wrestling. He disclosed this during an interview with “Sports Illustrated.”
Notable excerpts from the interview include:
About the reception of his AEW debut: “My phone hasn’t stopped buzzing since the match. I’ve been getting countless congratulatory messages. I’m trying to reply to every message and tweet, but there are just too many (laughs). I want to thank everyone, and this seems like the perfect opportunity.”
On executing his finisher move: “The Shooting Star Press used to be my finisher when I was in PWG. But other fighters like Ricochet, Matt Sydal, and Andrew Everett were also using it. I realized I needed to differentiate mine, so I added a knee drop to it. It was just a Shooting Star Knee Drop until I arrived at DDT where I christened it ‘The Ultimate Weapon.’ This was inspired by one of my favorite games, Final Fantasy 7. The scene where the main character uses ‘The Ultimate Weapon’ to defeat the final boss, Sephroth, inspired the name of my finisher.”
On developing a new move during his time off: “During those months of renewing my visa in Canada and training at the IWS dojo in Montreal, I had time to practice a new move. I’ve been working hard to perfect a more direct and faster move than ‘The Ultimate Weapon’. After much thought, I’ve decided to call this new move ‘Time Adventure,’ inspired by one of the greatest TV shows ‘Adventure Time.’”
