On a recent episode of the “Geek Time” podcast, Orange Cassidy, a popular wrestler in AEW, discussed the origin of his nonchalant character.
Cassidy revealed that his laid-back attitude isn’t a gimmick but a reflection of his real-life personality and lifestyle. He commented, “I didn’t create this character out of thin air. Rather, it’s just how I live my everyday life. There are instances when we all feel lazy and unwilling to get out of bed for work, right?”
“Speedball” Mike Bailey had his first match with AEW recently on a Dynamite episode and emerged victorious against The Beast Mortos. In a later conversation with “Sports Illustrated,” he elaborated that his delayed AEW debut, after finishing his tenure with TNA Wrestling, was due to complications with his visa.
Highlights from Bailey’s interview can be seen below:
Regarding the response to his AEW debut, he stated: “After my match, I’ve been flooded with people sending their congratulations. I’m trying my best to respond to every single message and tweet, but it’s impossible. There are too many to count. However, I want to express my gratitude to everyone, and I guess now is the right time to say thank you.”
He also explained the evolution of his signature move: “When I first joined PWG, I used the Shooting Star Press as my finisher, but I realized I needed to differentiate mine as it was already being used by others like Ricochet, Matt Sydal, and Andrew Everett. So I integrated the knees into the move. However, it lacked a unique name until I worked with DDT. I decided to name it ‘The Ultimate Weapon,’ inspired by my favourite game Final Fantasy 7.
Bailey also spoke about creating a new move during his break: “I have been working on a new move. I felt the need for a quicker, more straightforward move than ‘The Ultimate Weapon.’ During my time off in Canada, renewing my visa, I spent hours every week at the IWS dojo, a wrestling school in Montreal. There, I practiced and honed in on the kick that I now call ‘Time Adventure,’ a reference to one of my favourite TV shows, ‘Adventure Time.’”
