On the June 18, 2024 episode of WWE NXT, NXT North American Champion Oba Femi took center stage in the ring to tout his supremacy, declaring that he has defeated all contenders. However, Wes Lee decided to step forward and request another shot at the championship, only this time in a one-on-one match.
Femi seemed uninterested in entertaining the proposal until Lee mentioned the prospect of setting records. Currently, Lee’s name is more associated with the North American Championship than Femi’s. The idea of creating new records with this title intrigued Femi enough to convince him to grant a title match to Lee.
Nevertheless, Femi laid out an additional condition. This forthcoming duel will be the final opportunity for Lee to compete against Femi for the title, as long as Femi remains the reigning champion.
Lee accepted the terms and their match was thus finalized and scheduled for NXT Heatwave.
