NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam: Night 2 (9/5) Full Card & Preview
New Japan Pro Wrestling returns to the MetLife Dome in Saitama for the second night of Wrestle Grand Slam on Sunday. The show will feature four title matches, and another STARDOM showcase match. In the main event, Shingo Takagi defends his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against former LIJ stablemate EVIL.
Much has changed for both men, since EVIL left LIJ for greener pastures in Bullet Club. EVIL has already held the IWGP Double Gold, and essentially added his own gang with the recent House of Torture subgroup. Meanwhile, Takagi has been putting on breathtaking displays of athleticism, and quickly becoming recognized as one of the top wrestlers in the world. A battering, hard-hitting affair awaits fans in Saitama.
Also Robbie Eagles defends his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship against Hiromu Takahashi. Hiromu never lost the IWGP Jr. Title, vacating it due to injury earlier this year. Eagles has been on a tear to prove that he’s more than a utility player in CHAOS, and Hiromu will be the biggest test of his newfound confidence.
Plus, LIJ & Suzuki-gun’s rivalry over the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Titles has been third-wheeled by CHAOS’s Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI. The only duo in the match not to have a recent title reign, the CHAOS tandem seemingly has the most to prove. Also, El Phantasmo & Taiji Ishimori defend the Jr. Tag Titles against this year’s Super Jr. Tag League winners, Suzuki-gun. The match will be a rematch of the tournament finals, with Bullet Club promising a different result.
