During a recent media briefing, Hiroshi Tanahashi, the president of NJPW, declared the restructuring of the IWGP governing body.
The IWGP committee, which is responsible for monitoring title matches and tournaments in NJPW, will be restructured to incorporate past IWGP champions and high-ranking personnel from NJPW. Additional details about the newly formed committee and officiating at NJPW events will be disclosed soon.
This move was instigated after AEW wrestlers were provided with opportunities to contest for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title during Jon Moxley’s tenure as champion. It concluded with Tetsuya Naito triumphantly securing the belt on the previous Sunday at AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024.
