Before Nikki Cross’ return on WWE Main Event on May 10, she hadn’t been seen on WWE programming since February 1. But recently, she has regained her status as a featured player on the red brand. In fact, the former Women’s Tag Team Champion has technically defeated Charlotte Flair and WWE RAW Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley. From an on-screen perspective, Cross’ fortune has practically changed in the blink of an eye.

In an interview with Digital Spy, Cross explained how much she grew during her absence from WWE TV. She noted that she has been training and studying in an attempt to make herself the best wrestler she can be.

“So the last few months I’ve been training in-ring as much as I can,” said Cross. “I’ve been training four times a week, just doing everything I can to be the best competitor that I can be, working on different things and just introducing new moves to the move set.

“I’ve been studying as much tape as I can, watching a lot of matches. I’ve been watching a lot of Ricky Steamboat, a big favourite of mine.”

Cross described how she has also been watching her own matches from the past in order to directly learn how she can improve. She then expressed that she has grown both as a person and as a performer throughout this process.

“It’s been such an amazing period of growth for me as a performer and as a competitor and as a person and just really just throwing myself in and being immersed in a wrestling ring again,” said Cross.
