During an interview on the Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki revealed that she actually thought about joining AEW not long after Mercedes Mone joined the company in March.
The Bella Twins left WWE in 2023. Here is what she said,
Nikki: “Since you and I have been lifting so much, we always say, we start to get that wrestling mindset. Like, ‘We’re going to go back and do this story, and cut this promo..’ You get it but like how serious I got where I was like, ‘Okay, I think I can do maybe a year at AEW and I could do it every week.’ When I saw Mercedes debut and cut her promo and that line stuck with me, ‘Here we can make our evolution worldwide.’ It goes into many leagues, is what she means. It doesn’t have to be at one place, it could be at all the places where all these women are wrestling at.
Wasn’t I talking to you? I go,”Brie, so I think I can do it for a year. I can do it from here to here, I can go every week, I can be good and then I thought of Matteo. I had a good week of like this is it, I’m going to call Tony Khan, I’m your girl, I can commit, and then I was like I can’t do that to my son right now, like, he needs me.”
Brie: “When you told me you were thinking that, I was like please don’t ask me to be your tag partner because my husband is gone all the time, I am the one who is home with the kids. My thing is that how much I would love to do it, when I have to think of reality, the schedule does not work with my life right now.”
In a recent interview on the Nikki & Brie Show, former WWE wrestler Nikki Bella revealed that she had considered joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW) shortly after Mercedes Mone joined the company in March. The Bella Twins, Nikki and Brie, left WWE in 2023.
Nikki explained that she and her sister have been getting back into the wrestling mindset through their regular weightlifting sessions. She said, “We start to get that wrestling mindset. Like, ‘We’re going to go back and do this story, and cut this promo…'” This mindset led Nikki to seriously consider joining AEW.
Nikki was particularly inspired by Mercedes’ debut and her promo, where she mentioned making their evolution worldwide. Nikki interpreted this as an opportunity to wrestle in different leagues and not be tied down to one company. She said, “It doesn’t have to be at one place, it could be at all the places where all these women are wrestling at.”
Nikki even went as far as considering reaching out to Tony Khan, the president and CEO of AEW, to express her interest in joining the company. She believed she could commit to a year of wrestling every week. However, she ultimately decided against it because she didn’t want to be away from her son, Matteo, for extended periods of time. She felt that he needed her presence in his life at that moment.
Brie, Nikki’s sister, supported her decision but admitted that she couldn’t join her as a tag partner due to her own responsibilities as a mother. Brie’s husband is often away, leaving her as the primary caregiver for their children. While Brie expressed her love for wrestling and her desire to participate, she acknowledged that the demanding schedule of professional wrestling wouldn’t work with her current life situation.
The interview highlights the challenges faced by professional wrestlers who are also parents. Balancing their passion for wrestling with their responsibilities as parents can be a difficult decision to make. Nikki’s consideration of joining AEW shows that the company has become an attractive option for wrestlers looking for new opportunities and a chance to compete in different leagues.
Overall, Nikki’s revelation about considering joining AEW sheds light on the thought process and decision-making that goes into a wrestler’s career choices. It also emphasizes the importance of family and personal circumstances in making these decisions.
