Tonight, Nigel McGuinness is set to face off against Bryan Danielson for the AEW World Championship, adding an exciting angle to the Grand Slam-themed AEW Dynamite episode.
In a conversation with “Sports Illustrated” recently, McGuinness shared his perspective on this much-awaited clash, calling it the climax of his journey.
Speaking about winding up this chapter on his own terms, he said, “For me, given the history with my rival and the inevitability of age, it’s unavoidable. Bryan, in reality, is severely hurt. His neck is in a bad shape. It’s highly likely he will need surgery. He’s bound to get it done. Whether he decides to return to the wrestling ring after the surgery is uncertain, but knowing him, I think he certainly will venture.”
Touching upon the significance of this match, he emphasized, “Reflecting on this match later down the line, I believe, for me, it will be perceived as the zenith of my journey. Regardless of how it ends – victory, defeat, or a tie – I’ll have the satisfaction to say I lived an unimaginable dream of the little boy who once sat in Wembley Stadium, promising himself to become a professional wrestler.”
