The AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks recently appeared on the Wrestling Observer Radio, and they discussed the release of their book, their success with AEW and more. Nick Jackson described the brothers’ childhood love of the WWF, and Matt Jackson looked back on his first meetings with Tony Khan. Here are some highlights:

On how the Jacksons were huge WWF fans:

Nick: “We were such big fans that I remember [that] I got in real trouble, really bad trouble at school once because I didn’t know at the time, I was like seven years old, I told my teacher to suck it and I did a crotch chop. And the teacher was like, ‘You can’t do that what are you doing? Go to the principal.’ And my parents had to explain to them that I’m just a massive wrestling fan, and I don’t understand what that actually means.”

“We were huge WWF fans. That’s all we ever wanted to do and it just changed. I can remember the first time we were extras, it was probably in 2007 or so, and just being in that environment, it just felt so different and weird, and it’s nothing we envisioned that we actually really wanted. And I remember leaving that day, and I told Matt, I was like, ‘Man, I don’t actually like this feeling. I don’t know if I want to be a WWE wrestler anymore, just because of the environment back there.'”

On initially rejecting Tony Khan:

Nick: “When we were first contacted from him, I no-sold it. I said, ‘Ah, I’ve heard this story before. I’m not gonna take the call.’ I even told Matt, ‘What are you talking about, Matt? We’ve heard this so many times, don’t waste your time, we have tons of offer on the table right now.’ And Matt, thank God he didn’t listen to me, he kept talking to him. And after like three or four calls, then I was like okay, maybe this thing is something that we should look into.”

On the first time Matt met Tony Khan:

Matt: “He sent me a video, and it was a video he texted to Dana and I. And it was a video of him sitting in the crowd at [one of] the Long Beach New Japan shows. And he’s sitting in the front like with a leather jacket and a Bullet Club shirt. He’s got these big, thick glasses on and we actually too sweet. He’s like, ‘We’ve actually met before,’ and he showed me that. And at that point, I wanna say I started liking him a lot more. I was like, ‘Woah, he really is a fan.”
