Nick Aldis Explains Why A Match With Kenny Omega Would Need To Have Stakes: ‘What’s In It For Me?’

Many fans have wondered whether AEW World Champion Kenny Omega could target Nick Aldis’ NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship in his belt collecting quest. But if you ask “The National Treasure” himself, that match needs to have more stakes than a simple title bout.
Aldis recently spoke with MuscleMan Malcolm ahead of NWA Back For The Attack, and he shared his thoughts on a potential match with Omega. The reigning NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion explained that Omega would need to put something equally valuable on the line. Plus, Aldis emphasized that the money involved would be an important factor, too.
“Well first of all, he’d have to put all their other lesser belts up for grabs,” said Aldis. “Because what’s in it for me? What’s in it for me? First of all, first and foremost, the money’s gotta be right. And secondly, there’s gotta be stakes that equal winning the NWA Worlds Championship. You can have as many belts as you want. There’s only one Ten Pounds of Gold.
“[Facing Omega] would be interesting, just as a sort of incentive to humiliate him and shut up all these stans that are praising him as the savior of wrestling…. I hold the championship that’s been held by Harley Race, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair, Dory Funk, [and] Jack Briscoe, you know? What do I need to prove to anyone? He has a two-year-old belt, he had a belt that is two years old, right?”
Aldis stated that if the fans want to see this match, he’ll be waiting for the decision-makers to put the proper terms together. Otherwise, he claimed that thinking about this bout is pointless fantasy booking.
“I’ll be waiting, and if they put the right number of zeros on the contract for it, then we can make it happen,” said Aldis. “But otherwise, it’s mental masturbation.”
Aldis also reflected on the legacy of the late Joseph Hudson, also known as Jocephus and The Question Mark. He described how Hudson helped rebuild the NWA and credited him for the commercials that aired during “NWA Powerrr.”
“He did wear a lot of hats,” said Aldis. “He and I often bonded over that because we both were sort of guys who were willing to roll up our sleeves and get involved with whatever we needed to. But one thing for an example, you know, obviously Joseph, he was a talented editor and director, but the thing he particularly kind of hung his hat on creatively were the commercials that you saw on ‘NWA Powerrr’, like he did my RetroMania commercial, he did that.
“That’s my fondest memory of him, one of them, he just came over to my house and we set up a green screen and we just sort of ad-libbed, you know, just sort of threw different ideas around….We laughed so hard shooting that, and then I couldn’t wait to see the finished product when he did it. He lit up doing that kind of stuff.”
