Further details are starting to emerge about why All Elite Wrestling (AEW) unexpectedly canceled what would have been Saraya’s first one-on-one match of 2024. Formerly known as the AEW Women’s World Champion, Saraya, a British wrestler, was slated to go head-to-head with Mariah May on AEW Dynamite’s May 29th segment.
However, the much-anticipated match never took place, and no reason was given during the Dynamite broadcast to explain why the match was withdrawn.
The information gap was filled by Sean Ross Sapp during a Fightful Select Q&A session. The wrestling commentator attributed the cancellation to a “miscommunication,” which he claimed has been cleared up since then. He also mentioned that Saraya had “voiced concerns” over the situation.
According to AEW, the match was planned to go on air in the following week’s show, despite being announced on AEW’s Control Center.
Saraya expressed her intention to share her side of the story in a tweet, which she’s since removed.
The video featuring AEW Women’s Champ Storm & May, set to face the Outcasts’ Saraya & Cameron on AEW Dynamite on 22nd May, 2024, further adds to the intrigue.
