On a recent edition of his “Something to Wrestle” podcast, Bruce Prichard stated that the late WWE Hall of Famer Terry Funk was the reason Shotgun Saturday Night was taken off the air due to an infamous promo he cut before the 1997 Royal Rumble.

Shotgun Saturday Night was a syndicated WWE program that aired late night from 1997 to 1999 before being replaced by Jakked.

The show originally presented an edgier, late-night edition of WWE programming. However, the program eventually transitioned to a recap-type series for WWE.

During the infamous promo, Funk called Vince McMahon a “Yankee b*stard,” and called out Bret Hart, saying, “Your mother’s a wh*re.”

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On the instructions he gave Terry Funk: “Wrestle Bret, have a hell of a match, let’s get him over, and maybe a little promo beforehand. All I ask of you … ‘This is live … I know it’s late night but we’re live, and we’ve got a lot of eyeballs on us. Please, just watch your language, no hells, godd*mns, or s***, please.’”

On Shotgun Saturday Night being taken off the air due to Terry Funk: “When people say, ‘Bruce, whatever happened to that show Shotgun Saturday Night? I say, Terry Funk.’ So yeah, we got thrown off the air — for those comments. I think we had a g*ddamn in there, we had everything I asked him not to do.”

On Funk putting him in a trough of ice: “And there’s one point in the match [against Hart] where they had the big troughs of beer, on ice, and at one point, he [Funk] grabs me and put me in it. I didn’t have a change of clothes.”

Trish Stratus suffered a defeat at the hands of Becky Lynch in a Steel Cage Match in the opening match of WWE Payback 2023, but the fans still gave the Hall of Famer an emotional ovation as she made her way to the back.
