CM Punk made his return to WWE television on the November 27 episode of Monday Night RAW, cutting a promo to declare that he is “home” and that WWE is “where [he] belongs.”
As we previously reported here on eWn, Punk’s promo was originally planned to go longer to give The Voice Of The Voiceless more time on the microphone.
However, timing issues caused Dominik Mysterio vs. Randy Orton to run longer than initially planned, as a result of which Punk’s RAW promo was cut short.
Due to the time shortage, Punk delivered a more abbreviated promo to close out RAW than what was originally planned.
At the end of the promo, Punk said, “I’m here to make money, not to make friends.” It’s unknown whether this line was a shot at AEW.
Many talents backstage were waiting to see “which CM Punk showed up,” and fortunately, an often grumpy, angry Punk didn’t appear.
The former AEW World Champion was reportedly out with everyone else in the locker room at RAW, and he spent time talking to a lot of people before the live broadcast began.
In addition, WWE did not try sequestering Punk or hiding him away throughout the night.
Punk didn’t come in acting like he was above the rest of the roster, and he was friendly to everyone he spoke to last night.
It was said that Punk looked like he was “happy to be there” last night. The former WWE Champion showed “no sign of the version of the person we’d hear was so miserable in AEW.”
Several people who were not too thrilled with Punk’s return felt better about the veteran wrestler after talking to him last night.
Punk also referenced his wife, April Mendez (AJ Lee), during the promo. There are currently no discussions of having Mendez appear on WWE TV.
Punk is not currently slated for this Friday’s edition of WWE SmackDown in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center. However, Randy Orton is being advertised for the show.
It is to be noted that Punk has reportedly not yet been assigned to any roster internally by WWE.
