In recent weeks, both teams have been on opposite sides of the rivalry between Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton. Orton and the Revival have viciously assaulted all three members of the New Day in recent weeks. Woods and Wilder started the match and the champions gained the upper hand. Big E tagged in and took the fight to Wilder. Dawson sent Woods face-first into the steel stairs. The distraction allowed Wilder to sent Big E flying off the apron. The Revival isolated Big E and showcased their prowess as a tag team. The challengers dominated the match for a few minutes. Big E persevered and eventually tagged Woods, who cleared house. Wilder stomped Woods’ injured knee and dodged Big E’s diving spear. The Revival planted Big E with Shatter Machine outside the ring. Wilder hit Woods with a chop block and the Revival planted Woods with Shatter Machine.
Rather than pinning Woods, Dawson exposed Woods’ knee and made him tap to an inverted Figure 4. After the match, the new champions said they revived the SmackDown tag team division and claimed Randy Orton would defeat Randy Orton later in the evening.
