Kenny Omega announced on Friday that he will be taking an indefinite break after he was diagnosed with diverticulitis.
Fightful Select is reporting that Omega was feeling sick in the week leading up to his AEW Collision match against Ethan Page on December 9.
Omega kept his sickness a secret, and his condition later worsened on Dynamite the following Wednesday.
The former AEW World Champion still showed up to the TV tapings, where The Golden Jets were advertised to appear, and Omega was expected to be only working in a behind-the-scenes role.
Omega ended up appearing on Dynamite for an in-ring promo segment with Chris Jericho as advertised, as the team had a verbal confrontation with reigning AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill.
Omega sought medical care after AEW Dynamite. The following day, he was hospitalized on the doctor’s advice after being diagnosed with diverticulitis.
There’s currently no timetable for Omega’s return, and he has been removed from any immediate creative plans.
AEW was reportedly planning to have Omega wrestle on the December 20th episode of Dynamite, which obviously, has now been scrapped.
Jericho and Omega were also slated to challenge Starks and Bill for the AEW World Tag Team Titles at Worlds End on December 30.
Several people backstage understood that Omega was not feeling at his best at last week’s Dynamite TV tapings. However, The Cleaner still did his best to get through the show.

Diverticulitis is a condition that occurs when small pouches called diverticula form in the lining of the digestive system, usually in the colon. These pouches can become inflamed or infected, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, and changes in bowel habits. Treatment typically involves antibiotics, rest, and dietary modifications. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary.
