Netflix hosted a press conference this week, at their LA base, to discuss their upcoming collaboration with WWE. This noteworthy partnership, which will commence next month, will enable the screening of Monday Night RAW on Netflix.
The talk shifted to the issue of Netflix broadcasting live streams weekly, specifically, the streaming complications viewers experienced during the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul boxing match live broadcast.
During the meeting, Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, confirmed that the platform’s technical team has rectified these issues and is eager and well-prepared to bring WWE onto the platform.
Bajaria commented, “Whenever we do any live events, obviously, we want it to go very smoothly for every single one of our members. I think also to put things in perspective, it was 65 million concurrent streamers, right? It was a very successful night and a lot of people. The scale was very big, which was great. There was a lot of interest in it, and the thing is, when you test and push something to 65 million people … you can’t learn these things until you do them. So you take a big swing.”
Additonally, Bajaria highlighted how Netflix, having learnt from previous situations, has been tirelessly preparing for the live, weekly premiere of WWE RAW on the platform on the 6th of January.
She went on to add, “We’ve learned from those things, and we’ve obviously done a lot of stuff to learn and get ready for the NFL, and Beyonce, and Half-Time, and we’re totally ready and excited for WWE.”
WWE’s Chief Creative Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, added his thoughts, “I’ll just say if it blinks a couple of times and we do sixty million, I’m good with that.”
To Triple H, Bajaria responded, “We’re going to be ready for your sixty million!”
