WWE character Muhammad Hassan, played by Marc Copani, is convinced his wrestling persona would not fit in today’s dynamic. He shared these reflections during a recent interview on Maven’s YouTube channel, emphasizing that his character sparked contention even during its initial run from 2004 to 2005.
He shared that the character does not conform with the expectations and standards of present-day society, despite his appreciation for the integrity of the character over the years. “Muhammad Hassan would never work now. Never ever, and it shouldn’t. I’m not saying like it’s too bad, I’m saying like it definitely wouldn’t and it shouldn’t work. It’s just not the kind of character that agrees with modern society, and that’s perfectly fine.” Hassan stated.
In 2005, following a controversial match with The Undertaker which coincided with the London bombings, Hassan’s character was removed from TV. He was later officially released from WWE in September of the same year.
Meanwhile, Joe Tessitore has recently taken up the mantle as the lead announcer on WWE Monday Night RAW. His predecessor, Adnan Virk, is reported to be satisfied with Tessitore’s performance since he began his new role early this month.
During his guest appearance on the “Sports Media Podcast”, Virk, who was previously in Tessitore’s position for a brief period in April and May of 2021, praised his old friend, saying, “Tess is better at boxing than anybody arguably. Tess is a great boxing play-by-play guy. I believe Tess has always been a fan.”
Despite acknowledging that Tessitore has some big shoes to fill, Virk is confident about his friend’s success, stating, “I think he’s done great. That’s a very tough audience, they are tough to impress, so if you can come in and let’s say 60% of them like Tess, that’s a resounding victory. I’m sure that number is higher, but eventually they’ll understand Tess and his cadence. Like I said, the fact that he’s passionate about it and he knows it…It’s obviously a great hire for Nick.”
