Molly Holly wasn’t very close with Vince McMahon during her WWE career, but she did get a nice sendoff from the boss himself when she asked for her release.
Molly was this week’s guest on Pro Wrestling 4 Life with Sean Waltman and was asked about the relationship she had with McMahon in reference to how she was booked as a champion. Molly said she didn’t have a relationship with him, and said it was a big deal to walk into the office and ask for her release. Molly then revealed that other than a few greetings, she never spoke to Vince besides the day she asked to be let out of her contract.
“I didn’t have any conversations with Vince. The only conversation I’ve had with Vince in my entire career was when I asked to be released from my contract early. [laughs] It’s the only time I’ve ever said more than ‘hello’ to him. My—the way that I got hired was through Jim Ross and throughout my time there, I would talk with the writers or Head of Talent Relations, but I didn’t really have conversations with Vince. So, it was a big deal for me to walk into his office and ask, to tell him thank you for everything and that I’d like to close my chapter with pro wrestling,” Molly explained. “But yeah, I wouldn’t say I have a friendship with him or anything. I mean, he shook my hand at the Hall of Fame and I took a picture with him and he was very nice. That’s it.”
Asked to follow up on how that exchange went, Molly said it was a great conversation and Vince was very receptive and spent the whole time complimenting her and what she meant to their company.
“It was awesome, Vince was great. So, I first went in and I told him all about how my career has been such a blessing and I got to wrestle in different countries—I never would have seen those places without him. Also the fact that I got a good retirement savings because of how he paid me, all of these things. I wanted to let him know that this was an amazing experience and I was so grateful, and I feel complete in it and I would like to be let out of my contract. I don’t want to work anywhere else, I just feel complete,” Molly said. “And then he spent ten minutes telling me how important I was to the business, how he appreciated my work ethic, how great of a champion I was, but he just complimented me for ten minutes and said that if I ever wanted to come back, the door was always open. He shook my hand, and that was it.”
Waltman noted that Vince doesn’t just say things like that on a whim and he means it when it happens, and Molly said it feels good to leave things as they did and was thankful for the opportunity.
