Last night the wrestling world got quite the shock as New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Lio Rush announced his retirement from professional wrestling.
In a lengthy post on Rush’s Instagram last night, he revealed that he suffered an AC injury during his AEW debut at Double or Nothing. The ramifications of said injury sent the talented wrestler into a deep depression.
On top of being contracted to New Japan and a handshake deal with AEW, Lio Rush has also spent time as of late in Major League Wrestling.
MLW CEO Court Bauer has released a statement this morning regarding Lio Rush’s retirement:
“Lio is a brilliant athlete who made a difficult decision but one that I admire for his commitment to putting family first,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer. “I along with everyone at Major League Wrestling wish Lio continued success with the next chapter of his life and thank him for sharing his extraordinary talent with the world.”

While it appears we have seen the last of Lio Rush in both All Elite Wrestling and Major League Wrestling, Rush did confirm that he will fulfill his contractual obligations to New Japan Pro Wrestling once he heals from his AC injury. Whether this could make him potentially change his mind about retirement remains to be seen.
Lio Rush is a former WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion and MLW World Middleweight Champion. If this retirement sticks, Rush might be one of the youngest retirees from professional wrestling ever at the age of 26.
