Brian Pillman Jr. is chasing an opportunity with All Elite Wrestling but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s still under contract with Major League Wrestling.
MLW issued the following statement to WrestleZone, confirming that Pillman is still under contract with the promotion. It was also noted that Pillman does have permission from them to perform elsewhere right now but he would be factored into future MLW events once they believe it is safe to do so.
“Brian is not released and is fully aware of our schedule, which includes events October 3rd and December 5th pending the state of the pandemic. We put the health of our talent/staff and their family and our fans before bookings, which is why we are not running at the moment. We’ve been in contact with Brian to relay this. If he elects to perform elsewhere under the terms of his deal, he certainly has our full blessing to do so.”
Pillman is set for his AEW Dark debut tonight against Shawn Spears and recently told Louis Dangoor for WrestleTalk that a provision in his contract allowed him to go pursue work for AEW since MLW is on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the interview, Pillman also said that he wasn’t sure when the next MLW event would take place and not having a sense of security “made it easier to look somewhere else for work.”
“I truly wish MLW all the best in their future endeavors. It appears that they removed me from the roster, which is completely understandable,” Pillman told Dangoor, “but I was never really informed about their status with me. I simply informed them that I was going to go look for other work. No hard feelings, it’s all business, but yeah, they have a lot of great talent and I wish them all the best.”
