On Pat Kenney bringing him into the NWA: “It was Pat Kenney. Yeah, Pat called me up and he was like, ‘Hey, we might have an idea for you.’ I was like, ‘Shoot Pat, I haven’t been working man. I’m hurt, I just tore my bicep’, and I was [going to] be out for another 11 months, I had a long, pretty serious rehab coming. I was like, ‘It’s cool man, I’ll do real estate down here. I’ll sell some things and I’ll do this and that and I’ll be fine, I don’t need wrestling all that much.’ Now I’m going through my rehab, starting to drop the weight and starting to feel good again. Freaking Tom Brady, thanks a lot, he came down here and was playing all good, he was old. I was like, ‘I can straighten up and fly right for a year or two, see if I can get a rub if Pat wants to call me.’”

On getting the call from Kenney: “Got myself back going, didn’t really think about anything other than my health mostly. All of the sudden, the day the doctor cleared me, on the drive home from the hospital, Pat called me again. He’s like, ‘Hey, you got any clearance or what?’ and I told him, ‘I just walked out of the doctor’s office.’ He was like, ‘Okay, we have an idea for you’ and I was thinking I’d have a few months to get ready. [Instead, he said], ‘We’re gonna fly you out in two days and you’re gonna do this thing with Trevor.’ I was like, ‘Trevor’s champ, I don’t think I’ve got twenty minutes in me. He’s on his game.’ I forgot how long I’d been doing this, how fast it comes back and how the feelings get. It came back like a tidal wave of things I wanted to do in my wrestling career.”
