Former WWE star Mike Knox recently appeared on on UnSKripted with Dr. Chris Featherstone. He reflected on his career, and in one highlight, he looked back on his memorable elimination at WWE Survivor Series.
On famous WWE Survivor Series elimination, when Shawn Michaels superkicked him and asked, “Who was that?”:
Knox: “That’s another one of those particular rib deals, you know, I mean, I was still young. I was in ECW, I was so excited to be on Survivor Series. So when I heard I was going to ECW, I was like, they’re gonna let me run wild. You know? No. So you know, Michael Hayes comes in, you know, ‘Hey man, sorry, you’re gonna be eliminated first tonight.’ And I was like well, okay. But I’m gonna whoop some butt, right? You’re gonna give me eight minutes, seven minutes, let me get some steam on somebody, let me do something cool that I want to do, let the people know because I’m ECW.
“The main roster guys, they really don’t know who I am. You know, I’m ECW guy, you know, we filmed on the same days but it was different. So [Hayes] comes in and he’s like, you know, ‘You could do that, you can go out there and go four minutes or whatever, and just be completely forgotten by everybody. Or it can be one of those moments that people remember and they ask you about as a part of your career.’ And I’m just like I want that. I want a moment, this is gonna be so cool. He’s like, ‘Okay, you’re gonna get superkicked in one second and you’re out.’ And I’m like, ‘Aw.’ I was like, that’s not the moment I wanted. But here’s the funny thing about pro wrestling man. You get all these characters and they tell you this bad news and it’s not their fault, you know what I mean? Like this happened in a meeting.
“I always remember [the superkick] and I kinda held it against them for a long time, you know what I mean? They could have done it a little differently, helped a brother out, maybe?
“At the line of the line, they’re usually right. Because [fans] ask me about that Survivor Series thing all the time…. If [WWE] think that that’s best for business, who in the heck am I to say that it ain’t?”
