Roman Reigns successfully retained the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39 (Night Two).

In a recent edition of his “Monday Mailbag” podcast for AdFreeShows, former WWE referee Mike Chioda shared his analysis of the Cody-Roman feud going into WrestleMania 39.

Chioda also criticized the notion of Rhodes suddenly returning and dethroning The Tribal Chief without any solid justification at The Showcase Of Immortals.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On his own expectations for WrestleMania: “I’m sure probably 75 percent of people thought Cody Rhodes was gonna get the title. Like I said, I made that prediction, I thought Roman was going to keep it. Especially when I saw the Usos go down on Saturday night, I knew the other Uso wasn’t going down Sunday.”

On why he feels Reigns was picked to keep the title: “Roman Reigns has gone through every bit of the roster since before I left WWE. He’s gone through every top guy in WWE, so I don’t think they really thought that Cody deserved to come in in that short period of time and take away everything from Roman Reigns.”

On where the story involving the two wrestlers could end up: “If all goes well, it could be Cody next year. With the beating he took after WrestleMania, it just goes to show he’s gonna have to fight from underneath and go through this roster of WWE to get these titles.”
