Mickie James’ first major feud in WWE was against Trish Stratus, but that was not the original plan for the future Impact Wrestling Knockout.
After debuting as a Stratus ‘superfan’ in 2005, the crazed James would turn on Trish the next year, and dethrone the Canadian as Women’s Champion at WrestleMania 22.
Speaking on “GAW TV” James shared what the original plan for her debut looked like. She said,
“I initially pitched it for Lita. Because I had a history with Lita or whatever. I remember everyone worked on it. You [former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz] worked on that story and stuff with me.”
A rematch between Trish and James at the following Backlash saw Stratus suffer an injury, abruptly ending their feud, and Trish would retire that September at Unforgiven.
