A ‘This Is Your Life’ segment featuring Mankind and The Rock still remains the highest rated segment in the history of WWE Monday Night RAW, and Mick Foley recently appeared in a new video for WWE to reveal that Vince McMahon wasn’t a fan of the segment. He said,
“There’s a phrase I use, it’s called embracing the ridiculous. Some people, they’re just a little short of being able or willing to do that. I think it’s those that embrace the ridiculous, who sink their teeth into every opportunity that they are given that really make a difference. Rock was always in the zone, I’m not sure how neither one of us laughed during this scene, I don’t know. Looking back on it now, he’s the biggest star in the world and I got to be two feet away from him. I really wanted this to go well. What people don’t know about This Is Your Life, almost everyone loved it, one person decidedly did not like it at all and that was Mr. McMahon. Keep in mind, I think we had 14 minutes slotted and we went 26 on live, national television. Prime time TV. They brought in some local actors to portray the coach, the teacher, the former girlfriend.”
Foley continued, “Yerple was discovered in Michigan when we visited Mr. McMahon in the hospital. She and her husband had a place called Yerple and Jojo’s Fun Time Palace. One of the heartwarming aspects of the story is to this day, Yerple and I are in contact. There have been other attempts to try to recreate that, and I don’t think anyone’s ever gonna get it like that, because part of the beauty is that it was so loosely produced. So Dwayne did have the chance to just make it such a star vehicle, and with so little effort. When it was clear that we had not tanked, but instead done the exact opposite, we went in bold pursuit of Mr. McMahon and that’s when we walked away with the agreement that we could do whatever we wanted from that point on.”

Mick Foley Reveals Vince McMahon’s Reaction to Iconic WWE Segment
Mick Foley, also known as Mankind, recently appeared in a video for WWE where he shared some behind-the-scenes details about one of the most iconic segments in the history of WWE Monday Night RAW. The segment in question was a ‘This Is Your Life’ skit featuring Mankind and The Rock, which still holds the record for the highest-rated segment in RAW history.
In the video, Foley talked about the concept of embracing the ridiculous and how it played a crucial role in the success of the segment. He praised The Rock for always being in the zone and expressed his amazement at how neither of them laughed during the scene. Foley also reflected on the fact that The Rock has become the biggest star in the world, and he had the opportunity to work closely with him during this memorable segment.
However, Foley revealed that not everyone was a fan of the ‘This Is Your Life’ segment. In particular, Vince McMahon, the chairman and CEO of WWE, did not like it at all. Foley explained that the segment was supposed to last for 14 minutes, but they ended up going 26 minutes on live national television. He also mentioned that local actors were brought in to portray various characters in the skit, such as the coach, the teacher, and the former girlfriend.
Despite McMahon’s disapproval, Foley emphasized that almost everyone else loved the segment. He highlighted the heartwarming aspect of the story by mentioning Yerple, a character discovered in Michigan during a visit to McMahon in the hospital. Yerple and her husband owned a place called Yerple and Jojo’s Fun Time Palace. Foley revealed that he is still in contact with Yerple to this day.
Foley acknowledged that there have been attempts to recreate the magic of the ‘This Is Your Life’ segment, but he believes that no one will be able to capture it like they did. He attributed part of the beauty of the segment to its loosely produced nature, allowing The Rock to shine as a star with minimal effort. Foley also mentioned that after the success of the segment, he and The Rock negotiated with McMahon and gained the freedom to do whatever they wanted from that point on.
The video featuring Foley’s revelations provides fans with a fascinating insight into the making of one of WWE’s most memorable moments. It showcases the creativity and talent of the wrestlers involved, as well as the challenges they faced in bringing their ideas to life. The ‘This Is Your Life’ segment will forever be etched in WWE history as a testament to the power of embracing the ridiculous and seizing every opportunity given.
