A recent article by The Ringer delved into the career of Michael Cole, the iconic voice of RAW. In the report, he shares intimate details about how he was initiated into the company by none other than wrestling’s greatest announcer, Jim Ross.
Cole remembers his early days with the company and says, “When I made my debut at the company, it felt like an uphill battle. I found myself as the stand-in for the legendary Jim Ross, arguably the best wrestling announcer in the industry’s history.”
The world of wrestling was taken by shock when Ross was temporarily unable to continue his duties due to a Bells Palsy attack. Reflecting on those days, Ross mentions that the abrupt elevation of Cole into his former role gave rise to discontent among the fans. He recalled, “Cole was thrust into my position to fill in for me during my recovery period. His acceptance wasn’t immediate as they assumed he was there to replace me. But he conducts his role today more proficiently than I did in my era.”
