The wrestling world witnessed Mercedes Mone emerge as the second winner of the IWGP Women’s Championship. Recently, she mulled over the thought of another victory during a conversation.
Having held the title from February to April of 2023, Mone discussed her aspirations of once again staking a claim to the title previously held by Mayu Iwatani on the “Battleground” podcast.
Mone confessed, “I gotta review my schedule to see whether I can be present in Japan on a weekly basis. As the New Japan Strong Women’s Champion, we do have a promotion in the US that frequently organizes events. It’s more convenient to just catch a flight and be present. But should I decide to pursue the IWGP Women’s Championship once again, I wouldn’t hesitate.”
She added, “However, every move is calculated, and there’s a time for everything. That’s not the only championship I have my sights on. The small title that Mariah May is holding also fascinates me, as does the championship that Athena possesses in Ring of Honor. There’s plenty of opportunities in women’s wrestling. Only time will tell.”
Mone is slated to defend her AEW TBS Championship title against Willow Nightingale at the anticipated Full Gear 2024 event.
Meanwhile, Mariah May has completed her one-year tenure with AEW today and commemorated this momentous occasion on social media.
Having first appeared on the November 8th episode of Dynamite, May reflected on her journey within AEW and her World Champion title.
“One year ago I stepped into the AEW ring for the first time,
Progressively evolving from an unfamiliar face to headlining Dynamite, Collision, BOTB & Rampage. Having emerged victorious in the Owen Hart Tournament, supplanting the front-runner & earning the World Championship at Wembley Stadium,
Seems like the others have a bit of catching up to do.”
