Mercedes Mone shares insights on her WWE departure and reasons for walking out

Mercedes Mone (formerly Sasha Banks in WWE) left WWE in May 2022 alongside Noami due to a creative dispute with Vince McMahon. They were Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time. Naomi has since returned to WWE, while Mone is expected to make her AEW debut next week.

Speaking to Evan T Mack on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mone was asked what happened.

“That’s a big question. That’s a big, big question. I really believe in, not only the universe, but I believe in myself and a higher power of light that comes over me. Something inside of me told me that I needed to go do this and stand up for myself. It was a very hard decision because wrestling in WWE has been my whole life. People don’t know, it’s been my whole life. It’s the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make in my whole life, but it’s the proudest. It’s crazy, because I would not be sitting here, living the best version of my life and getting to be everything I’ve ever dreamt of, and more. It makes me so excited because that moment changed my whole life for the better. I’m so thankful for that moment. I’m so proud of myself. I’m so proud of Trinity, of just how strong we were. Everybody wanted to talk about it. Everybody wanted to act like they were in the room. Everybody acted like they were in the room, or worked there, or were backstage, or knew what happened, or knew what was said. All I know is that I handled it like a CEO, like the boss that I am, with my head held high. I can’t say anything but amazing things to WWE. I’m so thankful to the career they gave me, the fans they gave me, the life they gave me. The dreams that they gave me. So many dreams. I got to chase and live them all. I get to do so much more. I have a lot of unfinished business in wrestling in a lot of places,” she said.

Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, made headlines in May 2022 when she left the company alongside fellow wrestler Naomi due to a creative dispute with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. At the time of their departure, Mone and Naomi were the Women’s Tag Team Champions. While Naomi has since returned to WWE, Mone is set to make her debut in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) next week.

In a recent interview with Evan T Mack on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mone shed some light on the reasons behind her departure from WWE. When asked about what happened, she responded with a heartfelt explanation.

Mone expressed her belief in the universe and a higher power of light that guides her decisions. She felt a strong inner calling to stand up for herself and make a change. Making the decision to leave WWE was incredibly difficult for her because wrestling had been her entire life. However, she also emphasized that it was the proudest decision she has ever made.

The wrestler acknowledged the impact WWE had on her life, stating that it provided her with countless opportunities and helped her fulfill her dreams. Mone expressed gratitude for the career, fans, and experiences WWE gave her. She also mentioned that she handled the situation with professionalism and pride, asserting that she acted like a CEO and remained strong throughout the process.

Despite her appreciation for WWE, Mone revealed that she has unfinished business in wrestling and is excited about the new opportunities that lie ahead. She expressed enthusiasm for the chance to explore different avenues and continue chasing her dreams in various wrestling promotions.

Mone’s decision to join AEW has generated significant anticipation among wrestling fans. AEW has been gaining popularity as a major competitor to WWE in recent years, attracting top talent from around the world. Mone’s debut in AEW is expected to be a significant moment for both her career and the promotion itself.

As fans eagerly await Mone’s AEW debut, it is clear that she is determined to make the most of this new chapter in her wrestling journey. Her departure from WWE may have been a difficult decision, but it has opened doors for her to explore new opportunities and continue making a name for herself in the wrestling industry.
