In the latest edition of her “Mone Mag” newsletter, Mercedes Mone expressed her musings on five dream matches. The wrestling stars she chose to spotlight included Athena, Mickie James, Trish Stratus, Manami Toyota, and Kyoko Inoue.

Mercedes Mone’s Fantastical Top 5 Matchups
Curiosity arose amongst my team about who would make my top 5 list of fantasy match-ups. These could encompass wrestlers both past and present. I was inclined to include the likes of Eddie Guerrero, but in the end, we made a decision to focus on female wrestlers only. Below, I present the top five dream opponents by Moné.
Manami Toyota- As a spectator, watching her was absolutely breathtaking! The intensity and talent she brought to every match were simply unmatchable. Added to that was her ability to maintain her astounding performance in matches stretching to 30 minutes and beyond! She was way ahead of her time, and she holds the top spot in my list of fantasy matches.
Kyoko Inoue- As a longtime fan of Toyota, my second pick of dream opponents would have to be Kyoko Inoue, one of her most formidable rivals. Inoue is someone who I have always admired, and her prowess in the ring never fails to amaze me.
Trish Stratus- During her prime, she was just THE divertissement of women wrestling. Her ability to keep the groove even now is inspiring. I have been a long-time follower and hope to one day share the limelight with her
Mickie James- One can never forget the memorable rivalry between Mickie and Trish. The story arc was so moving and unique. The impressive part was that they maintained this riveting narrative for an entire year! Unbelievable, particularly for a women’s storyline. Their WrestleMania duel was legendary. Their careers have been hugely influential for me, making Mickie a definite entry in this list.
Athena- While they say fantasies are unrealistic, dreams can indeed become reality. On that note, I would love to battle it out with Athena, the reigning champion of the Ring of Honor’s women’s division. From my experience in the ring with her (albeit in multi-woman matches), I am in awe of her skills. She has a distinctive wrestling style that leaves a mark. Her passion for the sport also mirrors mine. Given the chance and appropriate opportunity, I am certain we could deliver one of the all-time great matches.
