Mercedes Mone successfully retained her AEW TBS Championship and subsequently seized Stephanie Vaquer’s NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024, during a high-stakes Winner Takes All match.
In response to the backlash from the live audience at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024 during her match against Vaquer, Mone shared her thoughts in her latest website newsletter.
In her statement, Mone said, “Dear Board Brethren of CEO Mercedes Moné, I am bound to seek out whoever among the crowd flipped support during my match… did you think I wasn’t aware? Admit it, you were having a bit of sport. I comprehend the resentment from the home crowd. It must be bitter to watch TBS’s face, the new Japan strong champion, and living proof that Boston is the champions’ city make HISTORY while your own teams aren’t up to the mark. However, maintain your grace. JK, LIFELONG CELTICS NATION! IF YOUR SOX ISN’T RED – LEAVE! The chants had me chuckling, my dear ninnies! Don’t you realize that I am the one who brings the Boss to Boston! I have a soft spot for New York, so go ahead, portray me as the villain. One thing I admire about wrestling is the fickle fans, and yet that energy boosts me further, so keep it up, I appreciate it! Wrestling shows always guarantee one thing: an unpredictable crowd, the outcome is uncertain but it’s surely a sight to remember! Honestly, NYC, I should express gratitude for your switch in support – cheering Stephanie over me during the match; it was an epiphany for me, and I now have some thrilling plans.
