Maven, in a new video on his YouTube channel, discussed his match for the World Championship against Triple H in 2004 and admitted that he was unprepared for it at the time. He said,
“Admitting this is tough, but the truth is, I wasn’t ready for this level of competition. I wasn’t prepared for a main event. After throwing the first punch at Triple H, I stood still waiting for further directives instead of staying offensive. Now I understand that I should have stayed aggressive after throwing that first punch. Hunter is a professional, he would eventually interrupt my offense. But it shouldn’t have been that he had to be the one dictating the entire game. This was just indicative of me not being ready for such a role. So it didn’t surprise me that this was my last time in a main event. I wasn’t prepared. I immediately sought out Triple H’s advice, wanted his input. I wanted to ensure everything we did he was okay with and to understand what I could improve. Whist he gave positive feedback, he couldn’t teach me the instincts that come naturally with repetition and experience in specific situations. Despite the fact that we delivered a match that fans enjoyed, I did just enough to prove that I wasn’t ready. It was unknowingly laughable, the match I had with Hunter likely accelerated my downfall and eventual exit from the company.”
