Former WWE superstar Maven Huffman has challenged the widespread belief that steroids were pivotal in the tragic final actions of Chris Benoit, who killed his wife Nancy and their son Daniel in June 2007. His name has remained unspoken on WWE TV ever since the incident.
There was significant vocal speculation post those events that steroid misuse had a role to play in his actions, including statements by Nancy Grace in a tense dialogue with Chris Jericho. However, during a recent installment of the “False Finish” podcast, Maven has refuted this belief. He stated:
“The moment someone blames steroids on what he did, I shut them down immediately. Steroids had nothing to do [with it]. Steroids is an easy way, and whenever you see somebody say ‘Roid rage,’ that’s an easy way for someone to excuse someone being an a*****e. That’s it.”
“Chris Benoit suffered from brain damage. Hands down. And I think they’ve said his brain was that of an 80-year-old. It’s just…you never know what it’s going to take to make someone snap, to take them over that edge. And what he did there in Georgia, it’s unforgivable. Completely unforgivable.”
Interestingly, on his YouTube channel, Maven has candidly discussed his own usage of steroids during his WWE career and talked about his personal victory over substance addiction.
Maven and Benoit were a part of a victorious duo in the prominent Survivor Series Elimination main event at the 2004 Survivor Series pay-per-view.
