Back in April 2002, Maven Huffman experienced an incredibly severe injury during his bout with Bob ‘Hardcore’ Holly, a noteworthy event in his professional wrestling career.

During a recent upload on his YouTube channel, Maven looked back and reflected on that infamous incident from a SmackDown episode and how he gritted through the pain to keep on fighting in the match. He recounted,

“[It was] a basic move, with him rebounding off the ropes, and me trying to stop his momentum with my foot. Due to my inexperience back then, I wrongly placed my hand as he was returning from the ropes. Let’s just say that the impact of his weight landing on my finger was not a pleasant experience.

“I instantly recognized something was off about my finger, but I didn’t inspect it right away. My main goal was to power through the match. I was aware that if I checked my finger, it might cause more trouble, so I held off until the match was over. As I made my exit from the ring, I got a glimpse of the injury. My ring finger bone was visible, piercing through my fingernail.”

Maven further revealed that the surge of adrenaline he felt during the match immensely helped him to complete the match, despite his injury. In the end, Holly was the victor.

Post-match, Maven was seen to by WWE medical team members. He later got comprehensive treatment in New York City the following day by the physician of the New York Yankees.

The procedure consisted of the removal of Maven’s fingernail so that the fractured bone could be adhered back into place. Afterwards, the nail was reattached and carefully sutured back on.
