In a recent episode of the “Tunnel Talk” podcast by Social Suplex, previous champions of AEW Tag Team, The Young Bucks, shed some light on their renowned heel EVP run in AEW. They also discussed Matt Jackson’s recent contemplation on refraining from using Superkicks, a significant trait of their performance style, during their character portrayal as heels.
Highlights from this intriguing podcast are presented below:
During the podcast, Matt Jackson expressed his longing to cease using Superkicks while performing as heels. He said, “There’s something liberating about completely altering what our fans have perceived about us. I even thought of embodying the EVP persona more intensely. I was inclined to stop using the superkick move entirely. I even shared this thought with Nick. His disagreement resulted in him winning the argument. I had to concede, ‘Upon our return, I don’t want to perform a single superkick’ and his rebuttal was, ‘Why would we consider dropping our trademark move?'”
In response, Nick Jackson highlighted the potential issue that might surface if they decided to stop doing their signature move. Expressing his viewpoint, he said, “Here’s where your judgement is flawed, Matt. You’re neglecting the fact that we’re on the verge of launching our new shoe line named ‘The Superkick.’ Giving up on superkicks at this stage would not go over well with our partner, Reebok.”
Matt then admitted about his tendencies of thinking in extremes, saying, “I’m quite the extremist in my thought process. I either wish to go completely in one direction or shift wholly in the other direction. For instance, ‘We would never be referred to as Matt and Nick again, it’s from now on Matthew and Nicholas, we will never perform superkicks, we might even shave our heads’. To this exaggeration, Nick typically responds, ‘Just be quiet!'”
