During a recent episode of his podcast, “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, Matt Hardy weighed in on the surprising plot twist involving Mariah May betraying Toni Storm in an episode of AEW Dynamite aired on July 10th.
May dramatically turned her back on Storm after securing a Women’s Title opportunity against her mentor at the 2024 AEW All In event by unexpectedly winning the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
Here are some of the highlights from Hardy’s podcast:
Talking about the surprising plot twist Hardy said: “I found it to be really impressive, and praise is due to AEW for going down this road. I’m a fan of the unrelenting intensity. It added so much more depth to the storyline, with her brutality feeling almost deadly, once she decided to backstab Toni Storm. The entire scenario, with May winning the deal from the onset, was something I was completely on board with. I appreciated that they made a move at this point, you could sense that something was on the horizon. But I loved the execution of the twist, well done to AEW for pulling it off in this manner… The storyline between Mariah May and Toni Storm is riveting, and I am enjoying it. Their shift to a more ferocious and intensely violent approach, getting grim and personal, I’m all for it.”
Commenting on Bryan Danielson overcoming Hangman Page to clinch the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, he said: “Initially, I had anticipated another Hangman-Swerve showdown at All In. But it was a delightful surprise that Bryan Danielson came out on top. The unpredictability was thrilling… Hangman’s portrayal in recent weeks has been remarkable, filled with intense rage and aggression. His obsession with Swerve and the championship adds more layers to his character.
“His missed opportunity, in my opinion, intensifies his motivation, further pushing his character into a turmoil. I found it riveting when he initially rejected The Elite, only to agree to collaborate with them following his loss. I think there’s a potential scenario where he might be a part of that match. But Bryan Danielson’s win was a good choice, bringing in an element of unpredictability, which in my opinion is always a good thing.”
