Matt Hardy Reacts To Criticism Of Jon Moxley vs. Cope At AEW Revolution 2025

In a recent episode of “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, wrestling veteran from TNA, Matt Hardy, discussed the conclusion of the Adam Copeland, Jon Moxley, and Christian Cage match that took place at AEW Revolution 2025.

Take a look at some notable moments from the podcast below:

Regarding the Jon Moxley vs. Cope match at Revolution: “I started perusing feedback on the Mox vs. Cope match, and the reactions were harsh. A lot of fans were unhappy about this match being the final one. I have a long-standing relationship with Adam and know Mox to a lesser extent. So I was intrigued to see what this match would turn out to be

.

“When I watched the game, I thought it was pretty good. The match was solid, with the two participants working hard. Adam was throwing heavy punches, something he typically refrains from. The match had a lot of striking and they tried making it intense and personal. Overall, I’d say the match was good.”

About other matches in the event: “The match was placed in a peculiar situation due to events preceding it. I watched the women’s match, Hollywood Ending, and it was a powerful performance. The two women really put their heart and soul into it. Kenney Omega’s match with Takeshita was top-notch. Will Ospreay’s match against Kyle Fletcher in a cage was particularly thrilling, especially the viral clip of the Spanish Fly off the cage. To be placed after these high-intensity matches and then be expected to have a more conventional fight-full of suspenseful false finishes-was a tricky spot.”

“Christian’s introduction, along with the Death Riders’ run-in, added to the excitement. However, it seems the fan reaction to the match concerns me more than the match itself.”

On viewers’ response: “The expectation surrounding these matches and the subsequent reactions on social media is what bothers me more. I genuinely felt that it was a well-executed match. The setup of the event following the super intense bouts put them at a disadvantage. I believe the expectation among AEW fans are sometimes unrealistic due to the extreme matches.”

On the anticipation of fans: “It’s bothersome that some AEW fans have unrealistically high expectations. There’s nothing wrong with having intense and extreme matches, but this leads to a skewed perspective on what a good match should be. Fans’ dissatisfaction with a match that doesn’t fulfill those expectations is disappointing.”

“Although Christian’s run-in towards the end drew a loud cheer, had he actually won the title, I believe it would have hushed the critics as it would have been a high point to remember. But when Jay came in and dismissed that possibility, which has been hinted at for a while, it was unfortunate. Being a professional wrestler for 33 years myself, I can say that overall, this match could’ve been staged differently or placed at a different point in the event.”
