In a recent episode of his podcast “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, former wrestling star Matt Hardy shares stories from the days where he was involved in the wrestling court during the Plucky era.
Highlights from the podcast are as follows:
Matt Hardy had something fascinating to say about Steve Blackman: “Steve Blackman was such an intriguing personality. By virtue of being a genuine tough guy, he was quite strange and peculiar, yet he also occasionally cracked jokes and it was quite amusing. It was very unlike what one would expect from someone of his nature.”
Addressing the circumstance which led to their involvement in the wrestling court, Hardy recounted: “It happened a day after we secured the Tag Team Titles from JBL and Faarooq. We were back home in Fayetteville, North Carolina and drove to Raleigh the next day. Everyone was flying out of Raleigh to New York, either to White Plains or Poughkeepsie. It was a smaller show since it was a Wednesday. Upon arriving, we were met by Michael Hayes who declared that he had a surprise for us. He had used all his miles to upgrade our tickets to first class. Despite our reluctance due to the entire roster being on the plane, he insisted that we sit in first class.”
Continuing the story, he said: “We finally go to first class, when we were suddenly made aware of the last passenger – Kane – who needed a seat. However, since we were occupying the first-class seats, there was no place for him. Even though we offered to give up our seats, we were asked to continue to sit in first class as we were the champions.”
Discussing their summons to the wrestling court, Hardy said: “After the incident, we got sent to the wrestling court. I recall Bradshaw telling us prior to this that this predicament wasn’t on us but on Michael Hayes, and that Hayes would bear the brunt of it.”
Regarding the sentencing, Hardy shared: “The Undertaker announced everyone guilty during sentencing. He pointed out that we were allowed off the hook as we had given him a bottle of Jack Daniels. Regarding Michael Hayes, he was instructed to buy Kane dinner for a week for stealing his in-flight meal and was required to carry his bags. It was a wild and humorous time, especially due to the absurd extent of the exaggeration by JBL.”
