On an installment of his podcast called “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, Hardy discussed why he believes Cody Rhodes stands out as the most proficient wrestler in the world, due to his technical prowess and celebrity status.
Covering some of the main talking points from the podcast:
Discussing Bryan Danielson, Hardy stated: “He’s a legend in his own time. In terms of smaller-built wrestlers, he has truly broken down barriers. This is a commendable accomplishment that we’ll remember for years to come. He’s truly a unique talent. There’s no one quite like Bryan Danielson.”
Hardy also made it clear why he considers Cody Rhodes to be the top wrestler globally: “Indeed, my choice for the top spot is none other than Cody Rhodes. You might have guessed it as when I answered your question about the world’s best wrestler, I replied with Cody Rhodes. He is representing WWE front and center. The previous year, fans were heartbroken when he didn’t win at WrestleMania. However, his journey from then to WrestleMania 40, including his win at the Royal Rumble, highlighted his prowess. Fans were eager to see the complete story with Cody unfold – this illustrates the tremendous support and adoration he receives.
“For me, Cody staked his claim for the title through his persona as the face of WWE. Yes, he is entering the territory that Cena once dominated, but, in many ways, he is a less controversial figure than John Cena. Whether it’s his promos or his in-ring avatar, he excels at all fronts. Plus, his year-long wait for the championship garnered him more support from hardcore fans who felt WWE should have given him the shot earlier. As of now, Cody Rhodes is leading the pro-wrestling industry. His full-time wrestling schedule, outstanding promo skills, understanding of ongoing storyline contexts, fan engagement initiatives and philanthropy highlight his versatility. He truly exerts himself to provide memorable experiences for fans. With his enormous effort, the built-up goodwill, and being the reigning WWE Champion, Cody is the most prominent full-time professional wrestler today.”
