Wrestling star Matt Hardy has voiced his opinion that it’s entirely acceptable for AEW to showcase ‘dream matches’ on regular television, instead of reserving them for pay-per-view events.
The impending fifth-year anniversary of AEW Dynamite will feature a noteworthy face-off between International Champion Will Ospreay and Ricochet, revisiting their celebrated 2016 match. This decision to air the match on TV has stirred up some controversy, mainly from fans who argue that a match so rich in history should be seen on pay-per-view.
During his regular podcast, “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, Hardy explained why he believes such matches are suited for TV. His statement was,
“I don’t really have a problem with it, and I kind of see it as a smart move by Tony Khan. It’s especially handy when you are focusing on boosting your viewership numbers. Doing this can increase interest in your events, and the more interest Tony can garner, the higher the viewership numbers could potentially be. In my view, it reflects positively on AEW.”
This week will see AEW hosting Grand Slam: Dynamite, where fans can anticipate Bryan Danielson going head to head with Nigel McGuinness in a match that’s been teased for years.
Earlier this year, Hardy ended his AEW contract and is now in the TNA Wrestling lineup. Despite this shift, he has expressed an openness to returning to WWE.
