In late 2022, Matt Carona was attempting to get the hallmark rights to his old WWE ring name, Zack Ryder.
Cardona revealed on Twitter last month that he attempted to protect it however got rejected.
Cardona discussed what took place while appearing on Jason Powell’s Pro Wrestling Boom Podcast.
“They did let it lapse (Cardona stated about WWE’s hang on the ‘Zack Ryder’ hallmark). I requested it understanding there’s an opportunity they might battle it and they have so that’s it, I’m letting it go. It would’ve been cool to do a cinematic Matt Cardona versus Zack Ryder match. It’s not gon na occur. I’m not gon na battle– because at the end of the day, it’s their copyright. They would win if we ever litigated over it so I attempted, they combated it so that’s it, I’m pulling back.”
‘Zack Ryder’ is dead in my viewpoint. It’s all Matt Cardona however I did wish to have it (Zack Ryder name) simply to do that Matt Cardona versus Zack Ryder cinematic match for it given that I have my own toy business, Major Bendies. It would have been cool to make a Zack Ryder versus Matt Cardona two-pack, things like that. More so matches than taking part in matches as Zack Ryder. It’s over, it’s dead, it was terrific. I’m grateful for that time however it’s done.”
