Stardust, also known as Cody Rhodes, might have experienced significant career lows during his time in WWE, but pro-wrestler Matt Cardona feels he suffered a more challenging journey in the wrestling world. Cardona’s perspective was revealed while he discussed his and Rhodes’ separate paths in WWE during a recent video released by Dr. Beau Hightower on his YouTube channel.
Rhodes parted ways with WWE in 2016, frustrated and creatively unfulfilled after his time acting as Stardust. He managed to reinvent himself as a leading wrestling figure before his comeback in 2022. Cardona, however, argued that his tenure was more difficult, compared to Rhodes’ experience.
He shared, “Cody often mentions his difficult experiences in WWE. But was it genuinely that bad? He never missed out on a WrestleMania, even though he might not have been in the position he aspired for. The Stardust avatar might not have lived up to his expectations, but I faced tougher times, I assure you.”
“Regardless, I appreciate everything he accomplished. He took risks, bet on himself, and he succeeded. He took the bold step of quitting, knowing he was capable of being better. His transformation from ‘undesirable to undeniable’ displays his sheer determination. I offer him the utmost respect for his achievements.””
In 2020, Cardona brought an end to his role as Zack Ryder. Since then, much like Rhodes did earlier, Cardona has revamped his persona and is now recognized as a top villain in indie wrestling circuits as well as other wrestling promotions.
Notwithstanding his previous experiences during his tenure in WWE, Cardona has hinted at a potential return and communicated his ambition to culminate his in-ring wrestling career as a Superstar.
