During a recent episode of his podcast “Busted Open Radio,” WWE Hall of Fame inductee Mark Henry expressed admiration for a match between Jeff Jarrett and Hangman Page which took place in the last week’s AEW Dynamite: Beach Break.
In the match, Page emerged victorious over Jarrett, advancing him to the subsequent round of the Owen Hart Foundation men’s tournament.
Below are some noteworthy excerpts from the podcast:
Mark Henry’s thoughts on the match between Jeff Jarrett and Hangman Page: “I couldn’t help but think, ‘this is what wrestling should be!’ The match was played out in Jeff’s style, and yet, Page appeared top notch! He presented himself as a standout performer without the need for the frills. ‘See? Just look at him, your honor, the proof is right there!’ The match pitted Page against an older wrestler, adhered to a conventional American wrestling style, and it was a success.”
His comments on the emotional depth that Jarrett added to the match: “The aim of our profession is to encourage the audience to suspend their disbelief. One has to look into the soul through the eyes. And when one is truly engrossed in the moment, it becomes reality. I’ve heard fans proclaim, ‘To me, it’s real, damn it!’ Jarrett succeeded in evoking that emotion, and Page was alongside him.”
