Mark Henry has called on WWE to provide “proper mentorship” to Gable Steveson following his in-ring debut last week.
Steveson’s double count-out draw with Baron Corbin at NXT Great American Bash has been met with criticism from fans who believe the result was a ‘cop-out’ by the promotion.
The Olympian also received a somewhat hostile response from fans during the match, with chants of “You’re not Angle,” in reference to WWE’s first Olympic Gold Medalist.
On “Busted Open Radio,” Henry, also an Olympian, spoke about Steveson’s future. He said,
“He needs the proper mentorship… I think they are waiting on the office to do it, they’re waiting on the writers to do it. The writers are not in the ring. The writers are not in front of the people. The boss cannot come to the ring and say, ‘Hey guys, we’re paying this guy a lot of money. We want him to get over with you, here he is.’ It’s gonna go off like somebody taking a dump in church.”
Henry went on to suggest that Kurt Angle could be brought in as Steveson’s manager to help elevate the 23-year-old NXT Superstar.
