In a recent episode of Sportskeeda’s “WrestleBinge” podcast, wrestling legend Mark Henry made an appearance to talk about his son Jacob’s ambitions to step into the world of professional wrestling. Unlike his father, Jacob, presently an amateur wrestler, aspires to mold his own professional wrestling identity.
Highlights from the podcast are included below:
When discussing his son’s career path, Henry stated, “Indeed, but I don’t believe he aspires to model his career after me. His idols are more like MJF, The Miz, and The Rock. He is multitalented, proficient in talking, singing, dancing. He was even the lead vocalist of a band. Besides that, he is a good student and excels in all his endeavors. I’m just overwhelmingly proud because he does not wish to be seen as merely my successor, which I respected and told him that if he wants to break free from my shadow, he’d have to shine very brightly since my legacy casts a colossal shadow as a former world champion in three distinct sports. But he’s eager and ambitious. Whoever is lucky enough to sign Jacob to a NIL deal will quickly learn that he is not just any run-of-the-mill wrestler or wrestling enthusiast. They’d have to keep his ambition in check. He’s already had the privilege of sharing a ring with some exceptional wrestlers.”
Regarding his son wrapping up his college career Henry commented, “Our immediate focus is for him to achieve the status of a collegiate All-American. After that chapter of his life is closed, and if sizable companies start calling, the negotiations will happen through me. I’m confident these corporates will appreciate the immense talent they are securing, someone they won’t need to sideline for couple of years. Prior to him moving to a large-scale company, I wish to spend a year traveling the world with him, pitting him against exceptional wrestlers who can teach him a thing or two about the business. I’m eager for him to spar with greats like Danielson and Jericho, who already mentor him. Through this, he’ll be well prepared when his time arrives.”
