AEW Women’s World Champion, Mariah May, recently joined the “Barstool Rasslin” podcast as a special guest where she shared insights and stories about her career. Topics included her reasoning for delaying her signing with AEW.
Below you can find some outstanding extracts from her conversation:
Her initial interest in entering the wrestling world: Mariah shared, “The desire to become a wrestler has been with me from a young age. After school, I ventured into accountancy, but my passion for wrestling remained. In the UK, wrestling is not as mainstream, it makes locating training facilities and finding opportunities a little more challenging.”
On receiving an offer from AEW in the beginning of 2023: Mariah reflected, “There were personal goals I wished to accomplish and areas I wanted to improve before taking the leap. The dojo at the AEW offered the opportunity for intense training.”
Discussing her quick ascent in AEW: Mariah stated, “From the inception of my training, I was in a unique position. The female representation was limited, giving me an advantage. I was fortunate that my physical appearance was seen as attractive, a quality sometimes lacking in the wrestling industry.”
