During a recent interview with “Wrestling Shoot Interviews,” Marc Mero commented on signing WWE’s first-ever guaranteed contract in 1996.

According to Mero, he told Vince McMahon that he wanted to bring his then-wife Sable on the road with him because of the divorce rate in wrestling at the time. He said,

“It just ruffled a lot of feathers when I came to WWF. Because of the signing bonus, the guaranteed contract, and of course, bringing my wife in too? Raised a lot of eyebrows. Next thing you know, I’m speaking to Vince. He goes, ‘I can give you the guaranteed contract and the signing bonus, but why do you want to bring your wife on the road?’ We walked into his office and he looked at her and he goes, ‘I got to put her on TV.’ And then her and I came up with the name ‘Sable’ and the rest is history.“

In a recent interview with “Wrestling Shoot Interviews,” former professional wrestler Marc Mero revealed an interesting story about signing WWE’s first-ever guaranteed contract in 1996. Mero explained that he wanted to bring his then-wife, Sable, on the road with him due to the high divorce rate among wrestlers at the time.

Mero’s decision to bring his wife on the road caused quite a stir within the wrestling community. The combination of the guaranteed contract, signing bonus, and the inclusion of his wife raised many eyebrows. Mero recalled a conversation with Vince McMahon, the chairman of WWE, where he expressed his desire to have Sable accompany him. McMahon agreed to the guaranteed contract and signing bonus but questioned the reason behind bringing his wife on the road.

The situation took an unexpected turn when McMahon saw Sable in person. He immediately decided to put her on television. Mero and Sable then collaborated on creating her wrestling persona, coming up with the name “Sable.” This decision marked the beginning of Sable’s successful career in WWE, where she became one of the most popular and influential female wrestlers of her time.
