John Cena rapidly built his reputation as the leading villain in WWE. But could Logan Paul’s unpopularity swing John back into the fan favorite?
Cena’s surprising villainous persona, displayed during the 2025 Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event, became his first villain stint since the end of 2003.
During a conversation with James Brizuela of Newsweek, Paul confessed that Cena’s transformation in Toronto, Canada took him by surprise. He remarked,
“I predicted that he was a snake, that’s what I said. I actually did not see the heel turn coming; that was insane. I’ll tell you what, I am here for all of it.”
Paul added a projection about a possible alliance between the two in future. He said if Cena betrayed him, it might induce the fans to welcome their WWE idol once again. He mused,
“If there were a team-up in the future, you have to consider that I would then be the one that gets snaked in front of everyone — which has the power to turn him back babyface. So, I don’t know if I want to give him that.”
Cena is aiming to shake up wrestlings by winning a 17th WWE World Title at WrestleMania 41 and retiring as champion, all without surrendering his title.
In April, Cena’s strategy will unfold as he challenges Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, NV.
