In this week’s WWE NXT episode, a number of significant events unfolded, suggesting possible future storylines for several characters, two of which are notably worth unpacking and discussing.
To begin with, there was a backstage exchange between Lexis King and Oro Mensah, where King demonstrated considerable respect towards Mensah. The two shared a moment over their fathers, King lamented his own father (Brian Pillman) absence, but said if he were present, he would want King to be the better person. In a moment of goodwill, King extended a handshake to Mensah, who encouraged him to make his father proud.
As surprising as it was, during their match, King refused to use the ropes for leverage, proclaiming, “I’m not winning like that.” But unexpectedly, he fell into a pinning combination set up by Mensah who used the ropes for leverage and cheated to win the match, this left King in shock. A cheerful Mensah celebrated the win with Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend and Meta-Four seemed amused while King was visibly disheartened by his loss.
In another pivotal backstage scene, Karmen Petrovic and Brinley Reece were gearing up for their tag team match against Wendy Choo and Rosemary. Petrovic raised the question about the identity of the girl at ringside for last week’s match between Eddy Thorpe and Ashante “Thee” Adonis. When Adonis stepped in attempting to charm the women nearby including Kendal Grey, Carlee Bright, Tatum Paxley and others, his flirtations fell flat.
However, things took an unexpected turn during the tag team match. Adonis came back to offer a rose to the same blonde girl in the audience again. Shockingly, Petrovic turned her back on Reece and started arguing with Adonis about his presence there. This diversion led to Reece being outmatched two against one, enabling Rosemary to pin her, thus costing Petrovic and Reece the match.
