In the recent past, WWE initiated the WWE ID project, a program aimed at recognizing and fostering talent in the United States. This move has led to conjecture about the potential expansion of the project to include Europe and Japan.
On “The A2theK Wrestling Show”, a question was brought up to Lee McAteer, PROGRESS owner, regarding whether their promotion would become a WWE ID participant. McAteer expressed openness to the concept.
McAteer stated, “Well, the reality is we have a, great relationship still with WWE. We still continue to communicate with them quite frequently. I’m sorry if my response seems vague, but let’s see where these discussions lead. We do have Meiko, a former PROGRESS champion who is now part of the WWE, set to appear on our show in February. If nothing else, it symbolizes the nature of our relationship. From a progress or defy standpoint, we intend to collaborate with everyone. If it benefits the business, if it benefits the fans, then we’re all for it. Naturally, our own brand will be our first consideration. But, we’re open to teaming with as many people as we can, we’ve always believed in having open doors as opposed to a forbidden one. Upon taking over Progress, Martin and I wanted welcome mats not just one door. The belief is that the more we collaborate, the more the wrestling scene grows which is beneficial for everyone. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing where our relationship with WWE evolves. That doesn’t mean we’re not equally excited about the prospects of aligning with AEW, TNA, and others.”
